{"id":490,"date":"2016-01-08T11:09:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-08T18:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mariaelenawrites.com\/meet-maurice-noret-from-the-coin\/"},"modified":"2023-08-15T18:47:20","modified_gmt":"2023-08-15T18:47:20","slug":"meet-maurice-noret-from-the-coin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mariaelenawrites.com\/blog\/2016\/01\/08\/meet-maurice-noret-from-the-coin\/","title":{"rendered":"MEET MAURICE N\u00d4RET FROM THE COIN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, in <b>Meet a Character Friday, <\/b>say hello to&nbsp;Maurice N\u00f4ret, my secondary character in <i>The Coin. &nbsp;<\/i>He is the French Intelligence officer who will be helping Richard Harrison find the killer who is threatening Gabriela.<\/p>\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-JyGjrh-gzpI\/Vo_n8ZyA-HI\/AAAAAAAABE0\/Mo9wGSbeCB8\/s1600\/Oded%2BFehr.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/mariaelenawrites.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Oded2BFehr.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\">Actor Oder Fehr is the perfect rendition of how I visualized Maurice.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><i>Maurice&nbsp;N\u00f4ret is a French intelligence officer who looks at the world through cynical eyes. &nbsp;He doesn&#8217;t have much faith in people, and he uses humor to show what he truly believes of the people surrounding him. &nbsp;He respects Richard and, once he meets Gabriela, will do anything to help catch the killer. &nbsp;He is fiercely French, a chain smoker, single, and will never have a serious relationship with anyone (there is dark history there, which will be revealed). &nbsp;Richard says Maurice is the only man who can kill with a smile.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Excerpt from The Coin:<\/p>\n<div>Maurice popped his head out the car window, the usual cigarette snuggled between his lips. \u201cReception committee. Must be real urgent.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cMaybe,\u201d Richard replied and opened the door.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Maurice reached over and retrieved a long envelope from the floor of the passenger seat. \u201cI\u2019ve brought you more info,\u201d he said, closing the car door as he got out. \u201cIt\u2019s a geological report of the region and anything else the computer could dish out as far as construction permits, new zoning laws, or strange events which might have taken place within this area during the past five or six years.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Richard smiled. This man was worth more than his weight in gold. \u201cAnything worth looking at?\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cI think not.\u201d Maurice scratched his head. \u201cOnly events that stand out were a landslide about a year ago, several fires that ravaged the region two years before, and the new prison. Nothing else.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cSave them for my return. I don\u2019t think this expedition will take very long. Anything else?\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cThe car\u2019s ready. You can swap it for yours when you bring Madame to my office tomorrow.\u201d At Richard\u2019s arched eyebrow, his smile turned cheeky. \u201cThe photos of the area will be ready and on my desk by nine tomorrow. You can save me a trip.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Richard chuckled. \u201cWe\u2019ll be there. I\u2019ve got some samples for your boys to analyze. My suspicion is you\u2019ll draw a zero, but anything is worth a try at this stage of the game.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201c<i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">D\u2019accord<\/i>,\u201d Maurice said. \u201cThe keys are in the ignition. Good hunting.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Richard refused the offer with a slight shake of his head. \u201cI\u2019ll be less conspicuous using the other car. And, Maurice, wait for me outside. I don\u2019t want Gabriela to suspect I\u2019m gone.\u201d <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Maurice shrugged. \u201cAs you wish. Where do I camp out?\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cThe terrace is your best bet. The rose arbor is nice, but the seat is hard. No cushions.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cAnd no female companionship to keep these old bones comfortable. The terrace it is.\u201d Maurice inhaled deeply from his cigarette.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cSorry. No wine, either.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201c<i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Buf.<\/i>\u201d Maurice exhaled, the stream of smoke floating effortlessly in the still air. \u201cWithout female company, wine would be wasted.\u201d He finished his cigarette and ground it meticulously into the ground. \u201cIf we only knew what we were looking for.\u201d He shrugged.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cI know. Do you have anything by way of gloves in your car?\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Maurice reached through the open window into the glove compartment. \u201cHere,\u201d he said, handing Richard gloves and a tiny flashlight. \u201cDon\u2019t stain them. They\u2019re Italian leather.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Richard laughed low. \u201cMy hunting is not of a violent nature tonight.
