Today, in Meet a Character Friday, <\/b>I’m extremely pleased to present Richard Winters, affectionately known as Dickey, from author (and my sister!!) Victoria Saccenti’s novel Destiny’s Plan,<\/i> Book 1 from her Destiny’s series.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n
Richard was born upstate New York to a blue-collar family, did a two-year stint in the military at age seventeen\u2014early enough to avoid Vietnam\u2014 and picked up construction and engineering as his specialty.  <\/span>He\u2019s a motorcycle addict.  <\/span>In fact, he prefers them to autos. His most prized possession is a touring Harley Shovelhead.  <\/span>He met Mario \u201cSkippy\u201d Adams in one of his motorcycle club hangouts, became good friends and eventually opened a joint auto repair business in Mount Vernon, NY.   <\/span><\/i><\/div>\n

With his brown eyes, raven-black mane, and goatee, he\u2019s the definition of tall, dark, and handsome, a good man, with a heart of gold.  His ex-fianc\u00e9 broke his heart when she fooled around with a club rival. As a result, he\u2019s kept women at a safe distance, until he met Raquel Muro and fell in love. Sadly, he knows he\u2019s chosen the wrong woman and, although Raquel is no Vivian, her heart belongs to another, and Richard knows it full well.  Still, he\u2019s willing to tr<\/i>y.<\/span>

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Richard\u2019s engagement with Vivian ended badly. It had left him with a bitter taste for relationships and a nasty scar from a knife wound on his back. From then on, he kept the door to his heart shut. As destiny would have it, the day he picked up the foursome at La Guardia and looked at Raquel\u2019s pretty face, alarm bells had gone off in his brain. Raquel was special. With her, his careful walls disappeared. She could crack his shields with a glance. Raquel was a heady combination for him: vulnerable, tempting, and innocent. <\/span><\/div>\n
The young woman dismounted the bike, unaware of her grace. Without guile, she commanded his imagination at her unsuspecting will.  <\/span>It attracted him like a bee to honey. She waited for him, holding the helmet, her expression soft and questioning. What was he doing? <\/i>Richard had cruised aimlessly, allowing his hands to take over the ride, and here they were, at his front door. He wanted her. It was all he knew. <\/span><\/div>\n
He dismounted and locked the bike, removed the helmet, and walked up to her. He reached down to her hand and brought it up to his lips. He kissed the small fingers one by one, peering into her enchanting eyes. Slowly, she lowered her lids, and he trembled like a schoolboy.  <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cWould you like to come in?\u201d He spoke so low he wondered if she heard him. She had. A passing shadow clouded her expression. He knew her story and waited. When Raquel smiled and nodded, relief and happiness flooded Richard\u2019s soul. She had evidently reached acceptance, same as he had. He kissed her knuckles again and allowed her hand to fall. With a gentle pressure on Raquel\u2019s lower back, he guided her inside. <\/span><\/div>\n
Raquel entered with a tremulous heart. The door closed softly, and the dull click of his boots stopped behind her. Richard\u2019s hands fell on the curve of her waist. Their warmth eased her trembling body. His hot breath caressed the nape of her neck. <\/span><\/div>\n
She didn\u2019t wish to hurt him, yet she\u2019d agreed to his invitation. It\u2019s not Matthew<\/i>. Matthew was gone. Was it fair to Richard? He knew about her grief, didn\u2019t he? <\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cRichard,\u201d she began, turning to face him, and he placed a finger on her lips.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cShhh, Lita. I know. If you\u2019re not ready, tell me. I\u2019ll take you home.\u201d <\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cNo\u2026I\u2026 Richard.\u201d She stumbled over her words, surprised by his admission. \u201cI really like you. I don\u2019t want to hurt you.\u201d <\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cI understand,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ll go slowly, one step at a time. If it feels wrong, say the word, and everything stops.\u201d <\/span><\/div>\n
Her lips moved to speak, but his descended on hers, warm and full, encompassing and possessive, in a wonderful caress. Not Matthew\u2019s kiss, though. His kiss would never return. Still, Richard offered what she had missed for months: life, emotion, and tenderness.<\/span><\/div>\n

           Wrong or not, she would allow the fantasy. Tonight, Matthew would live in her arms. She threaded her fingers through Richard\u2019s hair, he groaned and tightened the embrace. Sighing against Richard\u2019s lips, Raquel allowed her dream to take over.<\/span><\/span>

<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>Wow.  Well, after that excerpt, I understand why the author <\/span>was compelled to follow Dickey’s trail after he left New York, wanting to know what life had in store for him.<\/span>  So, readers, you won’t be disappointed.  <\/span>Dickey will be the protagonist of an up coming novel by Victoria!<\/span>
