{"id":614,"date":"2014-06-10T07:58:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-10T13:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mariaelenawrites.com\/and-so-it-goes\/"},"modified":"2023-08-15T18:48:48","modified_gmt":"2023-08-15T18:48:48","slug":"and-so-it-goes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mariaelenawrites.com\/blog\/2014\/06\/10\/and-so-it-goes\/","title":{"rendered":"And So It Goes&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Spanish author, Juan Ram\u00f3n Jimenez once wrote (and Ray Bradbury used it as his opening quote in <i>Fahrenheit 451<\/i>) &#8211; &#8220;If you are given ruled paper, write the other way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well, in the latest chapter of <i>The Book of Hours,<\/i> I&#8217;ve been giving my characters ruled paper and they don&#8217;t like it. &nbsp;They have actually been screaming at me to write the other way. &nbsp;Writers can be stubborn, but, after struggling with a scene in which my characters simply refuse to act, I need to write the other way. &nbsp;My characters want me to write the other way.<\/p>\n<p>So&#8230;scrap the scene. &nbsp;It is NOT working, despite the great dialogue and character development (according to <i>moi<\/i>). &nbsp;After all, C. J.
