Gabriela waited until he was out of earshot, then surprised herself by asking,  <\/span>\u201cWhy, Albert?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cWhy what?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Gabriela held his questioning green stare.  <\/span>Calm down, she told herself.  <\/span>Be cool.  <\/span>Unemotional.  <\/span>Logical.  <\/span>Oh, God.  <\/span>How was she going to get through this?  <\/span>She went for the missing bracelet again, cursed her forgetfulness, and grabbed her wrist to keep her hand still.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve been going more than out of your way to promote my works lately.  <\/span>I just wondered\u2014\u201d  <\/span>She swallowed nervously.  <\/span>This was definitely not going the way she wanted.  <\/span>She gripped her wrist until her knuckles turned white.  [\u2026]  <\/span>Her cheeks turned an even stronger hue of rose.  <\/span>\u201cI just hope it\u2019s not\u2026you know\u2026  <\/span>Heck,\u201d she finished lamely.<\/span><\/div>\n
Albert studied her blushing profile slowly, amused at her obvious embarrassment.  <\/span>He knew why she\u2019d been skittish these past two months, but also understood he had to allay her suspicions if his plan to make her his<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/a> mistress was to succeed.  <\/span>After all, he had rushed things.  <\/span>It was a mistake, a rare one for him, but he could excuse his faux pas simply because of her illustration.  <\/span>He had not been prepared for the rush of emotion, or the impact Gabriela\u2019s powerfully ferocious drawing had had on him.  <\/span>He had lost control, plain and simple, and had instinctively reached for her, placing in that kiss all his appreciation, his pride, his possessiveness, and his lust for her.<\/o:p> <\/p>\n

Albert took a sip of his scotch, rolling it over his tongue before letting it slide down his throat like velvet.  <\/span>\u201cDoes this outburst have anything to do with my kiss?\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Gabriela thought her face would vaporize from the heat in her cheeks.  <\/span>Her hand was like a tourniquet on her wrist.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cMa belle,\u201d<\/i> Albert smiled.  <\/span>\u201cDon\u2019t be so prudish.  <\/span>It was the excitement of the moment.  <\/span>You have to agree that your St. George shocked me.\u201d<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cIt left you speechless,\u201d she admitted.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Albert chuckled.  <\/span>\u201cA first for me, n\u2019est-ce pas?\u201d<\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cDefinitely,\u201d she said, and took a sip from her drink.  <\/span>The cool liquid didn\u2019t alleviate the dryness in her throat.  <\/span>\u201cIt still doesn\u2019t clarify things.\u201d  (Chapter 1)<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
